Fibromyalgia

SERVICE OVERVIEW

Fibromyalgia (Fibrositis) is difficult to diagnose, as symptoms include widespread pain, fatigue, cognitive difficulties (struggling to concentrate or staying focused) and mood disorders (anxiety or depression). It can gradually develop over time or have a sudden onset after physical trauma, surgery, infection, or significant stress.

Patients with fibromyalgia often also suffer from migraines, irritable bowel syndrome, painful bladder syndrome, and joint disorders.

Women are more often diagnosed with fibromyalgia than men. It also tends to be genetic and if you have osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or lupus, you may be more likely to develop the syndrome.

The chronic pain and associated lack of sleep can often lead to depression and health-related anxiety. Medication, physiotherapy, exercise, relaxation, and stress management will relieve the symptoms.
